Here's what I've been up to.

When I first decided to become a copywriter, someone told me I needed a portfolio. Fair enough, except I'd never worked in advertising or been to ad school. So I made one out of stories I'd lived, people I'd known, and things I'd grown up questioning. I wrote the ads, art directed them rather questionably, and walked into this mad advertising world. Looking back, I believe my ECD was exceptionally kind, but I still remember his words: "I like the methodology and school of thinking you come from." Perhaps he saw something in my thinking that I hadn't quite learnt to recognise in myself. Years later, I think I understand what he meant. I still find my ideas in my grandmother's stories, the pages of history books, cultural quirks, gender stereotypes, conversations with friends and the wonderfully contradictory business of being human. Some of those observations became ideas I believed in enough to take into a room, even when I wasn't entirely sure how they'd be received. Others took shape because someone saw the potential in an idea and gave it a chance. And none would have become what they did without the wonderfully talented people I got to work with. So the pieces I've chosen here mean a little more to me than the finished work you see. Each has a story of its own, and quite a few have stayed with me long after the campaigns ended.
